When you cannot locate the book you are looking for, you should first check the online catalog again to verify that you wrote down the call numbers correctly. It is very easy to transpose the numbers.
While checkling the call numbers in the catalog, you should also check the availability and location of the item. If the item says it is "checked out", it is not available and that is why you cannot locate it. If the location of the item is listed as "Special Collections" or "Reference" or any other location besides "Hutchins Library - Circulating", that would also explain why you cannot find it. You will need to search for the item in the correct location.
If you still cannot locate a book in the stacks after checking for those three pieces of information, please ask a staff member to help you look for it. We're great at finding misplaced items. If we are unable to find the book, we will fill out a "Lost Book" form.
