Hutchins Library as many different types of biographical works including books and reference materials as well as electronic articles and sources. To begin your search, a good option is BANC, Hutchins Library's online catalog. When searching the online catalog for books about or by people there are two ways to search. First is to find books by the author. In the drop down "Search by" menu, choose "Author." All of the search results will be by that person. It is important to remember that when searching by author you type the the persons last name then the first name. The second search you can do within BANC is a Subject search for a specific person. When searching by subject you type the persons name normally, first name then last name. The results often include both reference materials and monographs.

Secondly, in BANC you can also specify your results to only Reference materials. To do this, choose "Reference" from the drop down menu "Quick Links." This is on the main search page underneath the search box.

A helpful online resource is "Biography in Context" which can be used to locate both reference works and articles. Additionally, searching journals that are in subjects related to the person for whom you are searching, i.e. ProQuest Religion for Pope John Paul II or America: History & Life for the different Presidents, may also provide more articles.
